I use it for sitting cross legged on the floor, sitting in chairs that do not have adequate back support and in my office chair when I'm so tired I start leaning forward and slouching. You adjust the device to best support you in the way that you are sitting. It prevents me from doing any further damage to my back and joints, and does relieve the current back pain that I cause by slouching and leaning over my work.
It does have sliding one-inch thick pads for the knees that I suppose if your knees are sensitive, this would not be great for you. Properly adjusted, it does force you to sit up straight, keep your feet flat on the ground if in a chair, and give your back support. It does use your knees as a fulcrum, so if you have problems with your knees, this definitely is not for you.
You are in charge of all of the adjustments including the amount of pressure on your back and your knees but I can see how some people might find this bothersome and some people wouldn't mind it -- the same way we are all different about types of collars and turtlenecks.
I don't think the chair is meant to use for 8 hours at a time, although I have used it this way many times--for days in a row. I do find it a very useful tool to have around. I was very rough on my first one, and it lasted 20 years so even if you only use it sporadically, it's not like it's not worth the $65.
If you have to get up a lot and sit back down, it takes a little getting used to with placing the straps over your knees but worth the effort to get a correct posture. The other thing as others have mentioned is that if you sit for long, the pads over your knees tend to make your knees sore so maybe if you have some extra padding that would work..haven't tried it with extra pads yet though.
One other thing I will mention. There is what appears to be a seat belt like connection to go between you legs. Don't ignore it. It is there for a purpose and provides further posture correction and is a game changer when using the device. Aside from the adjustments when sitting and the slightly sore knees, I highly recommend this.
PROS: It's extremely comfortable and provides excellent lower-back support, even when you're sitting on the floor. It's simple to set up, easy to put on, folds up into itself so it's really easy to carry with you, and it's very low-key and seems to be pretty well-constructed.
CONS: we're taking one star away because the price is too high for something that someone skilled with a sewing machine could probably make a workable version of in 30-minutes for about $5 in nylon strapping, zipper, velcro, etc, AND because the maker charges even MORE for the plastic & stiff foam shin-pads, which ought to be included with the standard model (get the basic model, make yourself some shin-pads from a cut-up section of cylindrical plastic and save yourself some money). The whole package would be very reasonable at a two-for-$40 price-point. It's based on a technique developed by Yogis many hundreds of years ago, and you could do what this does with a single long piece of strong fabric about 2-3m/6-9ft long and 0.3m/1ft wide and arranged carefully around you and tied the way guys like Siddhartha probably did it Back in The Day.
Still, this is a very clever design (cute name, too) that was well-executed and the construction seems solid. It gets the four-thumbs-up vote from everyone here with a tender back (which is everyone here).
Even worse, I've seen three differently chiropractors over the years to address the constant back muscle strain, which worsens throughout the day. All "adjusted" my spine, which did not help more than an hour or so. All were clueless about the real solution and were wasted of time and money.
I'm also an allopathic physician, who graduated in 1986. Even my physical rehabilitation physician friends focused on the cervical spine - head forward as the key to solve the problem. Nothing they suggested worked. Even they have not been taught about the proper solution.
It is amazing to me that the entire medical professional world has not been apprised that supporting the lumbar base is the key to solving thoracic and cervical strain issues caused by poor posture.
After 50 years of suffering, my back is pain free, due to your Nadachair. I don't even have to wear the device much more than a few hours of the day either for the benefit to last all day long, as I now know how to sit properly even without active support from the Nadachair.
After trying the Nadachair, I thought I'd try a less expensive like product as second unit from Amazon. Mistake. Those support bands were sewn on to the back pad and ripped at first use. On the other hand, the Nadachair is made to be extremely durable, with in this case the support bands not sewn, but instead completely integrated as a loop around through the entire back pad.
I also had purchased many other typed of back improvement products (from Amazon and from Chiropractor's offices). All of those were ineffective.
Bottom line: This Nadachair product has been a life changer for me. Huge.
